Reflections and Motion: A Poolside Shoot with Adelaide Sines
Brisbane, Australia—a city where sunlight dances on the water, creating a vibrant and ever-changing scene. On December 31, 2017, I shot with Adelaide Sines, capturing a series that feels both fluid and full of life. Using the Sony A7R III paired with a 12-24mm lens, I explored the interplay between movement, water, and light, embracing the wide perspective this setup offered.
The 12-24mm lens allowed me to push composition to the extremes, exaggerating lines and distorting space in a way that heightened the energy of each frame. The reflections on the pool’s surface, the way light bent through the water, and Adelaide’s effortless presence all came together in a way that felt organic and unforced. This wasn’t about precision—it was about immersion, about feeling the moment as much as capturing it.
Shooting with natural light in such a dynamic environment meant constantly adjusting, embracing the unpredictability of the elements. The sun created highlights that shimmered, the water refracted colors in unexpected ways, and each movement Adelaide made transformed the space around her.
Looking at these images now, they bring back the sensation of that day—the warmth of the air, the scent of chlorine, the way everything felt endless and suspended in time. This series wasn’t just about documenting a poolside moment; it was about translating a feeling, an atmosphere, into something tangible, something that lingers.
